WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Film Noir Collection” is a collection of movies that have been released a lot on Home Video. Kino has been doing rather cleaned up Blu-Rays for a handful of the titles, as I’m looking at my HD copy of “The Stranger” right now. So, who is this set meant for in the open market? Film Noir is pretty dense and it will scare off the casual viewers. But, doesn’t everyone like a Detective story?
The selection of movies in this set are second-to-none. They’re also films that have been driven into the Public Domain. These titles are readily available, so maybe there are educational opportunities for those that haven’t picked it up before. That’s the problem when you do huge public domain releases like this. Either you’re targeting students or you’re going after bottom rung bargain hunters that don’t care that much.
The DVD comes with no special features. But, you’re getting TEN movies across two discs. The transfer holds up for a ton of movies that are in the public domain. The mono track works for what it is. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
