THE PLOT THUS FAR
Once again set in Pittsburgh’s renowned Abby Lee Dance Company, owned and operated by the famously outspoken Miller, “Dance Moms” follows the children’s early steps on the road to stardom and their mothers who are there for every rehearsal. Presenting a powerful cast of characters, the show immerses itself in dance competition season, delivering a captivating and dramatic look at the cast’s intense pursuit of national dance titles. Volume Two includes the final 13 episodes of Season 2, culminating with the girls’ competion at the Nationals.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Dance Moms” is yet another reality show about forcing America’s youth to perform for our ghoulish delight. Abby Lee Miller is the worst kind of person, as she mixes the worst aspects of helicopter parenting with the remote detachment of a long-time drunk. There’s some staged crap with a rival studio in Ohio, but it’s imaginary reality TV drama. I really wish that they would either move away from this crap or kill the excessive amounts of reality shows. I know that this filler material is keeping some cable channels alive, but it’s time to cut them loose.
The DVD comes with a few featurettes. The A/V Quality is pretty solid for a recent TV on DVD release. The first half of the season gets a separate release. Honestly, I have no idea what caused the split. In the end, I’d recommend a rental to the curious.
