“Blackout” is yet another look at the NYC blackout of 1977. Whether you’ve got Jimmy Breslin talking about Summer of Sam over it or otherwise, the ground has been mined clean. Con Edison could’ve done better, the NYPD could’ve been more responsive and NYC could’ve been less NYC in the late 70s. That being said, I speak for the rest of Middle America when I say that I don’t care anymore. I’m tired of more self serving nostalgic trips back to that bad time you had nearly 40 years ago.
The DVD comes with no special features. The presentation is solid for standard definition. However, I can’t escape the fact that there’s no reason for this documentary to exist. Could there be teaching elements to it? Sure. But, what happens in these 60 minutes that hasn’t been covered to death elsewhere?
