THE AWESOMES: THE COMPLETE SERIES REVIEWED
“The Awesomes” feels like it would’ve worked about 20 years ago. Now, it stands out as this original oddity that Hulu tried to start its platform with in 2013. So, what’s the deal? Seth Meyers and his SNL pals put together something that is funny and pokes fun at superhero concepts. It’s just that everything feels very passe. I appreciate hearing Bill Hader as a villain and having Rashida Jones show up. However, I don’t really care about Kenan Thompson as a Green Lantern with mother issues.
Is it enough to have an amazing line-up of celebs if Drawn Together was making better jokes out of the same material? Plus, what about the material couldn’t have aired on a major network? The freedom of Internet TV platforms is to escape the grasp of the FCC. I appreciate that Mill Creek is releasing these cult shows and I eagerly anticipate what’s coming in September. However, this series revisit didn’t quite make me into a fan.
I’m shocked it last 30 episodes because after the first season, it lost steam fast. Oh well, I still chuckled.
