CHEECH & CHONG’S UP IN SMOKE REVIEWED

“Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke” looks amazing for its 40th anniversary. Now, I can finally retire the 3 DVD iterations it had over the last generation. For those that are too young to remember, Cheech and Chong were older Mexicans that search the American West Coast for the elusive movie weed. While searching for that quality Kush, they ended up finding each other. Tom Skerritt and Stacy Keach show up as the Man. Younger kids will find this amusing as they eat Tide Pods and snort Special K.

The movie works as an extended commercial for their comedy albums, but it works. Hell, this movie was my introduction to the duo and it helped form my early understanding of comedy. But, the next movie I saw was Corsican Brothers. I get trying to branch out, but Cheech and Chong can step in it rather easy. The movie holds up by being what it needed to be in that era. It’s a tale of goofy stoners just trying to make it through a day. Eventually, they get the weed and rock out. But, that’s a tale for another time. 4/20 was Friday.
