THE DEVIL’S HONEY REVIEWED
“The Devil’s Honey” is one of those films that racked my young horror brain. It’s like that moment when you realize that the Shaw Brothers started making erotic films when the Kung-Fu business went sour. Yet, our Eastern friends never had a scene where the romantic lead shoves a saxophone into our heroine’s pubic mound and blows some sweet jazz into her lady garden. That’s why The Devil’s Honey works better. The rest of the film feels pretty standard, but it had to play super weird coming just 5 years after The Beyond.
Basically, the film is about a surgical error due to the surgeon worrying about his wife’s infidelity. This causes saxophone man to die, so musical crotch goes a little nutty. There have been many stories about vengeful women cutting down men of great status, but this feels like such a throwback. Imagine Killing of a Sacred Deer, but as a Red Shoe Diary. I love seeing a film like this getting a release. Too often horror hounds let the off-kilter work of their horror heroes fall by the wayside. Watch it all, people.
