TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY 4K REVIEWED
“Terminator 2: Judgment Day” is about the time that killer AI powered robots were supposed to destroy us in 1997. Thankfully, Boston Dynamics is trying to make the date just be 30 years off. What can be said about the film? Arnold Schwarzenegger achieved what any Austrian can hope to do after 1945. They get ripped, move to California and then mine the economy for every opportunity it has to offer. After that’s done, they make “Killing Gunther”.
There’s so much to love about this film. It was an era where malls still had arcades with robots trying to ruin kids’ time spent playing After Burner. Those ginger twins that hung out with Gizmo at Clamp Tower are in this one too. Yeah, I know about the attack on Cyberdyne, the killer Mexican compound and the escape from the mental hospital. We all played that terrible LJN game. So, what does it mean for T2 to make the jump to 4K?
The visuals are overly smoothed, but not Predator on Blu bad. Still, it’s quite noticeable and makes me wonder if it’s in somebody’s contract to make them appear younger. There are coloring issues, but I’ll leave that up to Cameron’s discretion. That being said, the DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track pops like crazy. I just wish it was 7.1 audio like the German track gets on the disc. Not sure what’s up with that.
After finishing the disc for a third time, I was left wondering something. Would 10 year old Anderson still enjoy the film if he knew it would be the last good Terminator film ever made? It’s one of those ubiquitous movies that people not take for granted. I still don’t have an answer for why that is, but I don’t see how anything can hurt this movie. This film is evergreen.
