KILLING GUNTHER REVIEWED
“Killing Gunther” is a vanity project for someone that I don’t believe has earned it. Taran Killam left SNL with about as much fanfare as David Spade got in his day. Now, he’s writing and directing a movie about challenging Schwarzenegger as a hitman. He assembles a team of his wife, his SNL buddy and other middlin’ TV actors to fight the Terminator. That’s when they start cracking jokes and shooting things. It took me a week to finish this one, guys. So hang on.
If anyone other than Michael Schur uses the Mockumentary angle anymore, they should be executed. What could’ve been a six minute sketch on YouTube has become a 90 minute movie about nothing. If we were going to make this realistic, then Arnie kills everyone in 20 minutes. Hell, some of them might off themselves just to avoid what’s coming. The comedy is forced, the action is poor and Arnold Schwarzenegger deserves better than this.
Hell, I wish I could go back in time and force him to keep his hands off that maid. It’s not worth losing that Kennedy mojo, dude. But, Arnie would probably stab me to death with broken laserdiscs of Red Heat. I’m a realist.
