MICROWAVE MASSACRE

MICROWAVE MASSACRE REVIEWED

“Microwave Massacre” was originally meant to star Rodney Dangerfield, but he asked for too much money. If Dangerfield has taken a paycut, I’m not sure that we would’ve ever saw him make “Back to School” or other future friendly fare. While Jackie Vernon was known as the voice of Frosty the Snowman, his stand-up was little known to anyone outside of clubs and comedy nerds. Both men had a similar physique and ability to channel a certain lack of respect. But, Vernon makes a movie like this far more believable.

The reason being is that I could buy a guy like Vernon snapping and keeping his wife’s severed head in a freezer. While the film plays short, it wears its plot on its sleeve. Honestly, it feels like a Troma film with far less class. Playing to less than 80 minutes, the gore stays as fresh as the ample nudity. I just wish that the titular microwave would’ve been used more in the kills. Chekhov’s gun and all of that. But, the microwave that Vernon’s wife overused did spawn his eventual massacre and downfall. So, it kinda works. Who am I kidding? I just love crass cinema.
