GENIUS REVIEWED
“Genius” is a film about the power of an editor. Naturally, most Americans didn’t get out to see it during the Summer. Max Perkins was a pinnacle of early 20th century literature, as he edited the works of Thomas Wolfe, Virginia Woolf and others. In terms of the film, a lot is easy to understand about the story. All editors and writers drank like they were intending to die early. There’s very little to Nicole Kidman’s part, other than she acts hammier than “Babe”. Still, the strongest part of the film is the natural sadness of drinking and writing alone. Character pieces tend to fare better than the Fall and Winter. Still, it’s neat to see something like this could find even the smallest audience.
