MY LITTLE PONY: EQUESTRIA GIRLS – THREE MOVIE GIFT SET

Ponies doing pony things.

The three best toy commercials I saw this year.

“Friendship Games” confuses me with the fact that there are humans. I get this is the third or fourth film in a series that allows for alternate universe tales. But, the push to have a High School element and human characters seems like a cash grab at preteens. But, I guess the bronies wanted this to happen. That being said, there’s not enough to differentiate the two worlds.

My Little Pony remains a franchise that I don’t get, but I’m not sure if that matters. Everything seems like a ploy to get your favorite characters onscreen. Everybody loves Twilight because she’s purple or something. I don’t get the deal with the orange one, but my daughter seems to like her. Once she can speak at a functioning human level, I’ll have to pick her brain.

“My Little Pony: Equestria Girls” follows Twilight Sparkle as she pursues a previously unheard of rival named Sunset Shimmer through a magic portal in order to recover her magic crown that was stolen. Twilight ends up in another world where she is a human, there are human equivalents of every pony she has known in Ponyville and they all go to the same Canterlot High school. Once again the fish out of water, Twilight must start from scratch to try and fit in with this new world and make friends with these familiar characters all over again. Now here comes the stinker. Sunset shimmer has apparently been manipulating students against each other through social media. an embarrassing youtube video, photoshopped pictures and anonymous text messages are enough to break up a group of girls who have been best of friends since grade school.

Friendship is Magic is animated with Flash and so is this movie. Unfortunately the humans look very stiff and unnatural. The movement of the humans appears choppy, almost as if they skipped frames, which would not surprise me. Lauren Faust’s style of the show doesn’t fit humans, and they look awkward. Probably, because no humans where originally planned.

“Rainbow Rocks” is also a show that does the same. All special features from the original releases are retained. The DVD set comes with an audio commentary, sing-alongs, deleted scenes and animated shorts as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong for standard definition. The transfer is clear. Plus, the Dolby 5.1 track creates some nice sound design for the bigger events. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
