100 YEAR OLD MAN, THE: WHO CLIMBED OUT THE WINDOW AND DISAPPEARED

“The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared” is the highest grossing Swedish film of all time. I never heard of it until now, so I figured that I’d give it a shot. What I saw was an elderly Nordic attempt to riff on Tati. While it wasn’t terrible, I felt like I had seen everything before. What makes this film feel different is that it feels a little dirtier.

The best way to describe the film is somewhere between “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure” and the Mr. Hulot films. You get elephants, random weirdos and a biker gang to help get our lead character from Point A to Point B. But, what does it matter? It’s not like America didn’t have pedestrian comedies that made a ton of money. Just look at “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”.

The DVD comes with a featurette, interviews and a trailer as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong for standard definition. The transfer plays a little dark. But, the Dolby 5.1 track is expansive. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.
