CAMILLA DICKINSON

“Camilla Dickinson” is a modern adaptation of a classic L’Engle novel. Unfortunately, it’s also very boring. It’s not bad for a Young Adult presentation, it’s just that nothing happens. Adelaide Clemens does amazing work as the titular character. But, a study of one young woman needs some sort of character development. Too much of the film feels like we’re waiting on her to do something.

I watched this film a few weeks ago as a double feature with “The Wolfpack”. The idea of parental captivity is interesting, but it feels far-fetched or cruel. The balancing act is a beast, but it leads into the similar YA trappings. A young man or woman will help our lead character discover themselves through burgeoning sexual identity. The degree of sexual push varies based on the rating.

The DVD comes with a featurette, commentary, deleted scenes and a trailer as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong with a supportive standard definition transfer. The Dolby 5.1 track works well with very little fanfare to push through the channels. I’d recommend a purchase.
