[text_block_nav title=”The Plot”]”Dope” is the kind of film cut to appeal to the Buzzfeed generation, but it ended up creating so many thinkpieces. It’s not black enough, it’s not white enough. Honestly, it’s one of the best movies about being a nerdy kid without resorting to the awful stereotypes. So many want to tie racial identity into the whole nerd issue, but I’ve known several Black nerds. In fact, I saw the movie with two Blerds.
That’s their nomenclature, not mine. While they believed it tried too hard to be cool and ape Youth Culture, it did stand apart from the crowd. Plus, it had Uncle Blazer in it and that dude is always a plus at this site. For me, it was strong movie with detailed character work. But, it’s not something I’m going to remember by year’s end.[/text_block_nav]
