“Camp X-Ray” is a film about a young military recruit trying to make sense out of her time in Guantanamo Bay. The slow pace of the film and lack of answers helps to influence the ton of Stewart’s character and situation. However, I can see this style of storytelling putting people out of their minds. Watching foreign combatants arguing over Harry Potter novels and the Marines never answering questions. It says a lot for that period in recent history.
Kristen Stewart is really starting to turn her career around. Between this film and “Clouds of Sils Maria”, Stewart is showing that glimmer that existed before “Twilight”. I think that I like her acting style so much because she exists as a real person. The material doesn’t flow naturally through her, but she stops to savor the incongruity of the matter. People aren’t forthright and nobody willing gives unless they know they’re getting something. Kudos to Peter Sattler for bringing this tale to the screen.
The Blu-Ray comes with a featurette and trailer as the special features. The A/V Quality sports amazing A/V Quality. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track is clean. The 1080p transfer shines for an indie drama. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
