ESCAPE FROM THE BRONX

“Escape from the Bronx” is about insane kill squads trying to eliminate all survivors from the Bronx. Mark Gregory returns in this sequel to 1990: The Bronx Warriors. Henry Silva also shows up because this was a cult film in the early 1980s and the paycheck didn’t bounce. The film barely hits 90 minutes, as it runs hard for pure impulse action. Hell, it makes 1990: The Bronx Warriors almost look like a character piece.

It’s so weird how large swaths of NYC in the late 70s/early 80s could pass for a post Apocalyptic wasteland. The whole early 80s fear of gentrification was ahead of its time. Even if it was in a grindhouse Eurotrash take on the Apocalypse. I might be out of my mind, but I noticed a slight “Land of the Dead” lift throughout the movie.

The Blu-Ray comes with commentary, featurettes, interviews, trailers and a poster gallery as the special features. The A/V Quality looks amazing when compared to the DVD. The 1080p transfer is pretty flawless and shows amazing field of depth. The DTS-HD mono track is appropriate for the era. If you’re a fan of Castellari, then you will feel the completist urge to buy it.
