WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Highway to Heaven” was one of those shows that was always on when I was younger. Either it was the first run on NBC or the re-runs on A&E. Most of the episodes blended together, but it’s kind of sad how those last two seasons fell. Victor French would be dead within a year of this season ending, which meant that he had to be consumed with lung cancer for most of this season. The poor guy never let it show, as his work level never dropped off when compared to prior seasons. If that’s not enough, there’s Landon continuing to spread his charm as Jonathan.

Michael Landon was getting near the end of the series and it started to show a bit. He started shooting episodes that poked fun of his career or past success with “Little House on the Prairie”. That being said, it’s not like anything else was really going on. But, wasn’t that the case with so many family shows in the late 80s? They struggled to get on the air and then they did nothing. I’m looking at your ass, “Sister Kate”.

The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is typical for standard definition. The transfer is flat with little punch-up. But, the Dolby 2.0 track kicks up where needed. In the end, I’d recommend a rental or streaming it.
