THE PLOT THUS FAR
Della meets up with an old friend, a child that she used to baby-sit and she and Perry are invited to meet the friend’s new wife, Suzanne. Meanwhile, Suzanne rents out her house to four gentlemen who are having a meeting about a plan that could get them all rich – little realizing that Suzanne is taping the whole conversation. Suzanne holds out for more money from her “client” before giving up the tape and is found murdered and the tape gone. As Perry, Della and Paul start to help the friend (who discovered the body and hence the prime suspect.) they discover that Suzanne used to be a Madam of a “certain kind of house”, that the four “meeting” takes great pains to cover up their business and that Suzanne’s past may have caught up with her…
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“The Case of the Murdered Madam” and “The Case of the Sinister Spirit” are both typical Perry Mason TV movies. Della gets in trouble and Perry is there with the full power of the Law. The side support team has changed around a bit, but it’s nothing major. Still, there’s something about the series that is starting to turn into a slightly smarter Matlock. I don’t know what to chalk that up to, but it’s starting to put me to sleep.
Raymond Burr is a solid lead and he knows the character. That being said, it is very hard to give a damn about the same thing in repetition. That being said, it’s friendly, familiar and repeating for older people that need some stability. I guess that means something for them. It gives me the fits.
The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is very typical. There’s nothing special about it. That being said, it works for what it is. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
