THE PLOT THUS FAR

Our bodies are changing, as synthetic chemicals are becoming an everyday experience for all of us. Every single human being on this planet is experiencing this, as we are constantly exposed on a daily basis to substances that our bodies have never seen before. At the same time, nearly all of our disease rates are rising, and many in the medical community are only now discovering, how much our lifestyles are affecting our own bodies, and those of the most vulnerable population, our children. Filmed all over the globe, ‘Unacceptable Levels’ pulls back the curtain on how these chemicals are getting into our bodies, and it also reveals that there is hope inside of all of our challenges.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Unacceptable Levels” is a fascinating documentary. It provides a history for how humanity has been exposed to synthetic chemicals from the WWII era until now. However, we’re not learning anything that we didn’t already know. When Ed Brown goes around the country interviewing people like Ralph Nader, nobody is saying anything that we don’t already know. So, why do we keep letting it happen?

Overexposure to chemicals is a pet concern for concern mothers, aging hippie douches and left-wing politicians in election years. However, what can one do about the proliferation of these chemicals and their impact on the environment? Every push has unforeseen consequences on the economy and ends up negatively impacting the people we’re trying to save. Sure, they’re getting sick now, but at least they could afford medical care before bullish regulations jack everything up. It’s not an easy answer, but no one is clearly pointing out where to go.

The DVD comes with no substantial special features. The A/V Quality is a standard mix for documentaries. There’s nothing impressive here, but it is what it is. I just wish we would’ve had a broader mix on the Dolby track. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
