Directed and written by Tom Schulman, “Double Down South” unfolds in a dilapidated plantation house in the rural South at the turn of the 21st century. Owned by Nick (played by Kim Coates), this house becomes the epicenter of high-stakes keno gambling. The film stars Lili Simmons as Diana, a skilled and ambitious keno player determined to win big, with Nick’s support.
Igby Rigney portrays Little Nick, a former keno prodigy now relegated to maintaining pool tables, who befriends and mentors Diana. The tension escalates when Diana aims to challenge Beaumont DuBinion (Justin Marcel McManus), the world’s top keno player, who shares a tumultuous past with Nick.
Alongside Coates, Simmons, Rigney, and McManus, the film features an ensemble cast including Tom Bower, Rebeca Lines, and Cameron Cowperthwaite. Produced by Rick Wallace, Sara Sometti Michaels, and Seth Michaels, with cinematography by Alan Caudillo and music by Adam Berry, “Double Down South” is a testament to independent filmmaking.
