JUST SEX, NOTHING PERSONAL
Just Sex, Nothing Personal is a Ukranian romantic comedy that plays so close to American studio system fare that it barely registered with me. While impressive on the technical side, that’s not the best thing when it comes to actual enjoyment. I can’t really think of anyone that will enjoy the film. Whether it’s romantic comedy fans or fans of world cinema. There’s enough there to annoy fans on both sides of the spectrum.
From Shock to Awe
From Shock to Awe is one of the better movies I saw in October. While I’m a documentary nerd, I appreciate any material about people using psychedelics to heal themselves. The research into how it can influence PTSD recovery is pretty intriguing. But, that’s not what the film is about. The film gives veterans a chance to speak truth to power about how these drugs are giving them their lives back. Solid work all around.
The Furnace
The Furnace is about why you should never travel for races. A young couple goes to Africa to take part in The Furnace. Tragedy strikes and now the terribly injured woman has to find a way to complete the race. Creepy and inspiration, the film hits all the right notes for misery watch people like me. Your mileage may vary.
Holiday Hell
Holiday Hell proves one thing. I’ll watch Jeffrey Combs in anything. Anthology horror set around the Holidays rarely works outside of Halloween. Yet, I found some of these indie treats to be delightful. I guess we can celebrate horror during Christmas past Krampus. Quite enjoyable yet I didn’t feel the need to revisit it later.
Holiday Hell is in theaters now, will be on Tubi on October 15th
We’ll be covering more of the October onslaught later this week.
