Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie [Review]

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers had two feature film releases in the 1990s. While I was alive when they happened, I was also in High School. High School was different back in the 1990s. People were less tolerant of fetish fandoms and the weird childish stuff that attracts today’s teenage infants. That’s right, I’m going to annoy even more Power Ranger fans. The Bronies got over the ribbing.

Shout Factory has put together a fun release. You get a featurette, trailer and a mini-documentary full of new interviews. The A/V Quality is sharp enough for a film of its age. However, I noticed a slight shimmer and dimming during the fight scenes. I’m not terribly familiar with the show’s continuity, but I think this was a big deal to the show upon release.

Recently, I was reminded that a second film was released two years after this one. While I remember that catchy pop song that came out with that one, it’s a blank to me. Well, come back in July for us taking on that one.

For now, I’m not sure what you want from me on this one. Ivan Ooze looks like Oscar Isaac’s performance of Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse. Outside of that, it just feels like the Power Rangers show taken to the cinematic level. I really, really, really can’t believe this was a modest hit.
