20) Troy’s Pick – Surfer Teen Confronts Fear
Troy had this movie sent to him at the end of summer 2018 and took forever to get to the movie. That’s because he watched it about 10 times before he could develop something to say about Surfer. Check out his thoughts here.
20) Daniel’s Pick -Widows
Given that Hostiles and Den of Thieves made the cut on my list, it should come as no shock that Widows landed on it as well. If I’m being honest, I find all three to be equally great. Lists being lists, however, some sort of ranking has to occur and Steve McQueen’s Widows is the winner of the homage trio.
Widows is slobbering all over the work of Michael Mann, but the performances are so great that I don’t care. Viola Davis is stellar and Michelle Rodriguez remains ever dependable, but Elizabeth Debicki still manages to show up both. They’d be enough to make this a must-see, but we still get great supporting turns from Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Bryan Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya, Kevin J. O’Connor, Robert Duvall, and Garret Dillahunt. Jesus Christ, what a cast!
20) Mike Flynn’s Pick – Avengers Infinity War
- Avengers: Infinity War, the crossover event that wouldn’t get bloated or incoherent and finally gave Marvel their Wrath of Khan moment of pathos
20) Jamie’s Pick – Beautiful Boy
Jamie heard this movie was about meth. He initially thought it took too long to get the meth and developed the shakes. Still, he enjoyed it.
