IFC Films announced today their acquisition of the North American rights to the stop-motion animated drama Memoir of a Snail. This poignant film is the latest work from Academy Award-winning writer/director Adam Elliot and features the voice talents of Sarah Snook (Succession), Eric Bana (The Dry), Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog), and Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook). Notably, this is Snook’s first lead voice role in an animated feature, and marks Elliot’s second stop-motion feature following his acclaimed debut with Mary and Max. Elliot previously won an Oscar for his 2004 short Harvie Krumpet.
About Memoir of a Snail
Memoir of a Snail chronicles the life of Grace Pudel, a lonely misfit with a passion for collecting ornamental snails and a love for romance novels. Separated from her twin brother at a young age, Grace spirals into anxiety and angst. Despite ongoing hardships, hope and inspiration emerge when she befriends an elderly eccentric woman named Pinky. As their friendship grows, Grace learns to let go of the clutter in her home and mind, finding the confidence and courage to love again.
Memoir of a Snail was produced by Adam Elliot and Liz Kearney and executive produced by Robert Connolly and Robert Patterson. The deal was negotiated by Scott Shooman for IFC Films, and on behalf of the filmmakers by Carole Baraton for Charades and Louis Balsan for Anton.
The film is an Arenamedia production with major investment from Screen Australia, in association with Anton and Charades. It was developed and produced with support from VicScreen, and financed with support from Soundfirm, Mind the Gap Finance, Jameker, Shadowlane, and the Melbourne International Film Festival Premiere Fund (MIFF). Additional territories will be co-sold by Paris-based Charades and London-based Anton.
