A slimmed-down Carlos Mencia treads into new comedic territory in this robust stand-up special that doesn’t skimp on funny. Filmed live for Comedy Central, the set includes Mencia’s takes on what it means to be patriotic — and politically correct.
If you’ve ever seen Mencia’s work before, it hasn’t changed since he lost weight. Basically, he’s trying to reframe himself in a slightly edgier environment that puts him in the bullseye. The guy’s a blatant joke thief, but the argument can be made that the same accusations haven’t hurt Chris Rock or Denis Leary. Plus, you get to see the guy talk honestly about his struggle to stay fit and lose weight.
The DVD comes with almost thirty minutes cut from the show. The A/V Quality is ok with a standard definition transfer and a Dolby Surround track to support it. I don’t know if it was a true 5.1 audio mix due to my receiver’s inability to pick up a clear reading. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.
