THE PLOT THUS FAR
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Leave The World Behind” is about how a band breaks up. It’s all about friendship and forming bonds in unique circumstances that few other people are qualified to comment on. These guys helped to spread the second major wave of EDM and club kids all over the world thank them. That being said, there’s a ton to the culture and music that will rub most the wrong way. While I’m not a fan, this documentary gives you a chance to see behind the curtain and get an idea of what makes these gentlemen tick.
Swedish House Mafia are defined in this documentary by the quiet moments shared with family and crew. Through those glimpses of intimacy, the outside world gets an ability to frame what matters to these guys. But, you also see what’s driving them apart and the need to end the group. LCD Soundsystem did it, The Beatles did it and I’m having a hard time thinking of other groups that filmed their dissolution. I guess you could examine their unique group formation to find the root of the problem. Three DJs all vying for control of a sound while trying to amalgamate something new. I’m not sure if that’s even been done or will be done again. It’s almost a metaphor for personal direction in modern music.
The Blu-Ray comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is pretty amazing for a music documentary. The 1080p transfer is rather flawless. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track borders on reference quality, but I’m not willing to make the commitment to that yet. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
