Seymour Bernstein is the best.
“Seymour: An Introduction” is a loving documentary about paying attention to those that choose to teach. Seymour Bernstein was a concert pianist who delighted New York and beyond for years. However, he gave it all up to teach music to the next generation. Ethan Hawke helms this documentary that serves two purposes. It wants to enlighten the world about Bernstein and then explain why the vocational shift.
The 88 year old Seymour never lets the documentary get off focus. He constantly speaks of talent and poise, as he guides Hawke around New York. Whether it’s his tiny apartment overlooking Central Park or an impromptu concert at Steinway, Seymour has something to teach us all. It’s not about rushing or facing the matter. But, it’s about letting things come where they may and enjoying the moment. Hell, this might be one of my favorite documentaries of the year. The DVD comes with an In Concert featurette and trailer as the special features.
