Cycling Idol Gino Bartali decided to work with other Italians to rescue Jews in Nazi-occupied Italy. While he was a Tour de France winner, his daring deeds have gone unknown to the mainstream world. Working with Dr. Giovanni Borromeo, the duo created talk of a fake disease to scare Nazis away from a hospital where they were hiding the Jews. Working with a network of outside help, the duo helped the Jews to flee ensuring that 80% of Italy’s Jewish population would survive the Holocaust. That number is among the highest survival rates for Europe at the time. The DVD comes with no special features.
