HOPE FOR STEVE REVIEWED
“Hope for Steve” is something more than a disease documentary. It’s a look at real love surviving in the face of “What If”. What if your loved one gets a terminal disease and all eyes go to you. Do you stay with them? You know the agony of what’s coming next and yet you have to ask yourself what can you do for this other person?
Hope Dezember answers that call in spades for her husband Steve. Watching as the duo comes together and grows stronger over the 2 1/2 years spotlighted in the documentary is inspiring. Inspiring in a way that you don’t get to see in film. Inspiring in a way where real life manages to rise to the honor of allowing two people to become better as a unit. I dare you to watch this documentary and not get swept in the story of Hope and Steve.
If you’re expecting “The Theory of Everything”, you’re still going to be off target. This is a film about two people not giving up in the face of certain despair. The end will still come, but it’s not about waiting for that final point. It’s about enjoying every moment you have together and finding a new way to live life. Great work all around.
