Bert I. Gordon made the kind of movies that Ed Wood would’ve done if he had an eye for visual effects. It’s not much of an eye, but Gordon does his best with “Food of the Gods”. What can I say, people? A farmer goes all Monsanto and creates a special chemical that causes animals to grow large and crazy. They maul several cult actors and actresses, while I can think about is that stunning poster. That poster is so amazing that it was in “Blow Out”.
“Frogs” is a film about killer river creatures going after Sam Elliott and Ray Milland. If that doesn’t sound exciting, then you’re dead inside. No frogs actually kill anyone in the film, but their swamp brothers and sisters go nutty. Seeing a young Sam Elliott is unsettling, but he manages to provide for a solid lead. The idea of nature rebelling against a crazy old man is neat, but not really sustainable for a feature.
The Blu-Ray comes with new interviews, commentary and a trailer as the special features. The A/V Quality is quite sharp for the films. However, points of “Frogs” looks really washed out. The 1080p transfers and DTS-HD mono tracks really stand out. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
