What does it mean to be human?
“Extant” is such an odd show. I’m not a huge fan of Spielberg working in television, but the main idea feels more like a film rather than a longform series. Halle Berry sleepwalks through the role in the way she has treated genre entertainment for awhile now. I wish she’d go heavy dramatic again, but money is money. The series began with initial premise. Astronaut wife, robotics husband and robot kid live the weird life of the future. Then, it turns into corporate espionage and other cliche weirdness.
It’s just that for a CBS show, this feels like it belongs on TNT. Deep cable gives fans enough time to care about world building and minutia. As it stands, I’ve all but given on learning anything major about Molly’s sudden space pregnancy and her weird alien kid. Luckily, CBS killed the show in October. I’d like to see some sort of resolution happen, but I’m not holding my breath. Honestly, CBS gave the series long enough to find its footing. You can’t just force things to happen.
The Blu-Ray comes with featurettes, gag reel and deleted scenes as the special features. The A/V Quality is very strong. The 1080p transfer is rather amazing for recent TV on Blu. Plus, the DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track holds its own with any recent feature. That being said, I wish it was a better a show.
