FLAIR BARTENDING

FLAIRBARTENDINGdvdbox

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Designed for bartenders with 0-2 years of Flair experience, `Flair Bartending: The Working Flair Series` contains over 7.5 hours of step by step and slow motion instruction. Learn 240 Flair Bartending moves as the Extreme Team discusses each and talks you through every technique. Visual demonstrations are repeated multiple times, making this extensive series a must have if you want to bartend with Flair.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Flair Bartending” seems to have been shot in the late 90s. Quicker than you can say Third Eye Blind, you’re flying into the basics steps of how to wow the local bar folk. This seems to be a beginner entry, as everything goes slow. Sometimes, it makes the 7 1/2 hours feel like 24 hours. But, it works for what it is.

I’m not sure of the appeal that this will hold for our readers. But, there are some barfolk among you. I’ve met a few of you. Learn how to make an “Old Fashioned” and quit being so chatty. Does that count as flair? Maybe, I’m being picky. Oh well, what can we do?

The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is strong with a flat transfer and a Dolby audio track. The Dolby track doesn’t get much back channel action. Plus, I swear that this was shot on tape and converted to digital. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.

SEVEN YEAR HITCH, THE

SEVENYEARhitchdvdbox

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Two best friends accidentally take their relationship to the next level and suddenly find themselves saying ‘I do.’

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“The Seven Year Hitch” is a TV movie designed to play upon the last few hormones within the middle-aged housewives of Middle America. Basically, a nice white girl has been living with her college buddy for the last seven years. Enter new jerk who wants to marry her just to secure a promotion at work. Emotions are at play and the usual bullshit happens. I could continue to crap on this flick, but about 20% of our readers will still watch it.

The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is strong with a supportive transfer and a Dolby audio track. The Dolby track doesn’t get much back channel action outside of the few major crowd scenes. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.

GARFIELD SHOW, THE: SPRING FUN COLLECTION

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Join Garfield and his friends as they have fun in this wonderful collection of spring episodes!

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Spring Fun Collection” is the latest compilation episode from “The Garfield Show”. You get six Spring theme episodes that deal with everything from allergies to Odie. People seem to like Odie for some reason. I always figured that he was a metaphor for Garfield’s fears surrounding his mortality. But, I ponder that kind of junk too much. That’s all I do all day. Ponder, ponder, ponder.

The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is strong with a supportive transfer and a Dolby audio track. The Dolby track doesn’t get much back channel action outside of the few major crowd scenes. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.

13 EERIE

13eeriedvdbox

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Six forensic undergrads, vying for a trainee position with the FBI, embark on a scientific expedition to a remote island that was once used as illegal biological testing grounds for life-term prisoners. Now, the mutilated cadavers of these convicts have come back to life and are savagely hunting them down one by one.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“13 Eerie” was knocked on its ass by the fact that these zombies were able to run, even with their advanced decomposition. I am not particularly a fan of fast and agile zombies, but this here was just a bit too stupid. And to make matters worse, then the zombies were making these growling sounds that would put even the biggest and ferocious of lions to shame. It was so bad. Zombies should not, and I repeat not, be making such noises, it just becomes a spoof and a comedy on itself.

I thought that the film would have been made better if we knew more of the background to the whole how the undead came to be, instead we have a rushed conversation at the end of the film. It didn’t stop me form enjoying it as a whole but it felt like it was missing something maybe more of a sinister backdrop to the storyline in places but that is just me. I would say give the film a go its better than some zombie movies out there.

The DVD comes with featurettes, photo gallery and the commentary as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong with a supportive transfer and a Dolby audio track. The Dolby track doesn’t get much back channel action outside of the few major jump scenes. In the end, I’d recommend a rental to the non-discriminating horror fans out there.

FUTURE WEATHER

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Lauduree (Haney-Jardine) is a 13-year-old loner passionate about nature and worried about global warming. Greta (Amy Madigan), her grandmother, is a fiery nurse jaded by alcohol and disappointment. When Lauduree is abruptly abandoned by her dreamer single mom (Marin Ireland), she decides to take survival into her own hands, forcing her and Greta to rethink their futures. Featuring outstanding performances by Amy Madigan (Field of Dreams, Gone Baby Gone), Lili Taylor (Say Anything, Six Feet Under), William Sadler (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile), Marin Ireland (Revolutionary Road, Rachel Getting Married) and newcomer Perla Haney-Jardine (Kill Bill Vol. 2, Spider-Man 3), Future Weather is a coming-of-age drama about saying goodbye to what we love and leaping into the unknown.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

Lauduree is a 13-yr-old girl with a flaky single mother and a realistic, but not very tactful grandmother. Rey is a serious girl and a good student, especially drawn to science. When she latches onto the idea that we humans are drawing down natural resources too fast, carelessly endangering the whole Earth, she finds herself on a mission, almost as if she has to save the Earth.

What helps the characters drives the film is a great balance of dramatic emotion and knowledge. Environmental metaphors not only explain the premise but thanks to Deller’s brilliant script they subtly bring together the duel storyline thereby giving it an intelligent, yet relatable perspective. In fact, trying to guess where and how the scientific symbolism will relate to our protagonist is part of the fun and makes watching both interesting and entertaining. In addition, once Deller lays out her characters nothing seems forced.

The DVD comes with deleted scenes, trailer and short film as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong with a supportive transfer and a Dolby audio track. The Dolby track doesn’t get much back channel action outside of the few major crowd scenes. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.
