Hobbyhorse Revolution is a movie about the power of imagination. A bunch of girls begin to compete and form a community about hobby horse dressage. Is that the correct term for holding exhibitions of your ability to rock a stick horse? If you’re passively watching, you could dismiss as another weird teen fad. Then, you start to notice a trend among the young ladies. They are all deeply troubled.
If you want to go in-depth about it, then the film never really goes back to it. All the film does is tease a bigger problem, then returns to the power of hopping around with your fake horse. What’s crazy is that the film makes it clear that the number of people doing this is raising. It’s just that after seeing the women that take to it, you really wonder if it’s indicative of a larger problem. Is this kind of activity considered to be therapy?
When you actually get people to say they were bullied, again there’s no follow-up. Did the bullying pushing them to this? Were they always going to do this? I get that we’re in a socially Laissez-Faire society now. I’m just not getting the appeal and want to know if I’m missing something dark here. Check it out if you’re curious.
