TAG

TAG REVIEWED

“Tag” is an action-comedy about awful people keeping a tradition going through the ages. Your friends will tell you that it’s based on a true story. Somehow, that won’t surprise you. Jeremy Renner plays the man who won’t be tagged. His friends couple up and welcome new people into their shared delusion. Towards the end of the film, Brian Dennehy publicly displays his hatred of these middle-aged bastards. So, why is the film garbage?

Well, it’s not total garbage. Some of the choreographed takedowns are quite amazing for a comedy. Plus, I’ll watch Jon Hamm in anything. After you get that pleasantry out of the way, it’s a film about celebrating Ed Helms and miscarriage jokes. An entire plot point is created around a miscarriage and then the efforts to retcon it. I was stunned that more feminist writers weren’t screaming bloody murder over that. But, they don’t watch movies…they just wait for people to tell them what to hate.

That being said, this film seemed pretty popular. Its general blandness kept people from getting too upset over the content. Hell, I’m not that upset over the miscarriage joke. After finishing Tag, I was stunned to realize that I lost 100 minutes of my life. I needed those minutes. That extra slice of time could afford me the chance to be tagged by the better parts of Life. By Life, I mean the Eddie Murphy prison movie. Not the awful pseudo Blob one.
