SWEET VIRGINIA REVIEWED
“Sweet Virginia” is such a slow burn. It’s an adult movie about older people trying to hang together in the face of adversity. As a few locals drop dead, a new stranger shows up. He’s charming and tries to endear himself to the crowd. That is until things have to get violent. While the film plays rather short, I found myself having a hard time hanging with the material. I believe that I have a decent attention span, but something is bugging me.
I’m a big fan of acting pieces, but I need momentum. Watching tightly wound people is fascinating from a dramatic perspective. I just want something to happen. If I have to wait too long, I’m tuning out. I hate to be whiny like that, but that’s where the movie took me. Let me know if you had a different experience.
