THE SLAYER REVIEWED
“The Slayer” plays with the idea that a woman is seemingly summoning a creature with her bad dreams. What follows are some underrated gore kills and a rather fast tempo. This is another horror film that I heard a ton about, but never had the chance to see until August. That’s the downside of the past kids. If certain movies didn’t hit wide home video release, then a lot of people in Middle America didn’t get to see it. Watching the film, I can’t see how it played past a handful of screens upon theatrical release.
But, don’t take that as a quality indicator. The film is quite fetching for an early 80s horror movie. It’s just that I wish the film had a way more conclusive ending. What we get is way too open-ended for a movie that kept pushing an explanation. I enjoyed this film and I expect to dive back into the special features, it’s just that I want more information. I love it when horror movies can get me on those deep info dives.
