ONES BELOW, THE REVIEWED

“The Ones Below” feels like it would’ve came out in America around 1990-1992. It’s such a suburban disarray movie that you almost expect to have a scene where Rebecca DeMornay breastfeeds a stranger’s child. Still, this film enjoys playing with mental conception and endangering kids. In that way, it’s delightfully cruel for a modern audience. We don’t get enough films like that.

Outside of that appeal, the main couples are too odd to really give a proper sense of danger. Honestly, both mothers seem like they have a good shot at murdering their children. But, they could both be nuts. The men seem put-upon and lacking of any real purpose. As a result, the audience might be left confused and not knowing what to trust. A lesser filmmaker would say that was the overall purpose. An audience member with a brain will realize that multiple edits jumbled the narrative. Still, it’s worth a stream.
