THE BROOKLYN BANKER REVIEWED
“The Brooklyn Banker” allows Federico Castelluccio to make the transition from Furio to film director. While the script feels very familiar, the emphasis on intelligence in a mafia film is novel. Too often, the film keeps returning to the normal mob trappings of Sorvino and Proval playing off each other. It just feels like there was a better film to be observed with Troy Garity at the wheel. I’m not sure what to chalk that up to in retrospect.
There were so many odd turns and choices. Proval reveled in them, but Sorvino seemed to be above them. At times, it felt like the movie was nothing more than cliche after cliche. It’s a weird blessing to have missed potential in your film. Honestly, it just feels like saying you failed, but something amazing existed under the surface. I’d recommend checking it out if you get the chance.
