THE BRONZE REVIEWED
“The Bronze” is best viewed as the little indie comedy that could. Sure, it’s co-written and starring a rather major sitcom star, but that’s not the point. It’s a film about defining success at a young age and trying to grow up with it. “The Bronze” is one of the best films about living past your prime that I’ve seen in recent years. Plus, it has a sex scene where the carnal activities are display with the choreography of a floor show.
What endears the film to me so much is its consistency. While the director is making his feature length debut here, you can see where his short-form past works with the Rauchs’ script in creating a world that we need to visit just long enough. Somewhere between Melissa Rauch’s insane bangs and the accents, you find something that feels far more real than Hess’s look at rural Idaho. Kudos to Sony Pictures Classics on timing this home video release to the Rio Games. It has made for quite a fun juxtaposition.
