Witches want babies.
“Cherry Tree” is about a young woman returning home to rural Ireland. While caring for her elderly father, she makes a deal to save his life. If she agrees to give a baby to a local coven, the witches will save her father’s life. She agrees and then goes through the most rapid pregnancy known to man. Unfortunately, this demon baby might spell doom for humanity.
The film is all setup and the payoff didn’t satisfy me. Still, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the attempt to really tackle witchcraft. It seems like nobody really evokes witches anymore in their horror. While this film didn’t quite set it off, it’s something that should be seen. I just wouldn’t put it at the top of my stack. Maybe somewhere in the middle for a nice afternoon affair.
