GIUSEPPE MAKES A MOVIE

Giuseppe Andrews makes real underground cinema.

Hey! That guy made a movie.

“Giuseppe Makes a Movie” is the kind of documentary that I would’ve loved as a High School kid. But, we age and move past our Art School film aspirations. While I did and still support the grunge open world aesthetic. Anyone can make a film, but can they make a good one? The documentary focuses on what became of child character actor Giuseppe Andrews after his time in the limelight faded. While you might remember him from Detroit Rock City or Independence Day.

The film Andrews is making is about a cow granted a reprieve from the slaughterhouse. As he tries to find a way to enjoy his two day stay from death, we’re slowly introduced to Andrews’ stable of actors. Whether it’s his dad or the local trailer park queen that loves to sing, these are the stars that shine the dimmest. However, they deserve to have attention paid and Andrews/Rifkin pay attention wholeheartedly. I would like to see Andrews’ other films, but I’ll take this one.

The Blu-Ray comes with a two discs full of featurettes, extra scenes, interviews, trailers, a TV pilot and the feature film at the focus of the documentary as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong enough for a film shot in 2 days. The documentary shares the 1080i transfer that apparently Garbanzo Gas was shot in frame. The audio is a lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 surround track. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
