FROM THE BACK OF THE BOX:
Join professional illustrator Mark Marderosian on a creative journey as we discover the basic fun of learning to draw! “Drawing With Mark” is a Parents’ Choice Award winning series that helps kids of all ages unlock their creativity. The DVD includes two 30 minute episodes: “Something Fishy” finds Mark and the gang at Woods Hole Aquarium and we learn to draw a school of fish and a sea star. “A Day at the Aquarium” see Mark return to Woods Hole and we learn to draw a fun seal and a sea turtle.
FROM THE BACK OF MY BRAIN:
“Something Fishy” actually had me drawing alongside Mark before the five minute marker. It caught me offguard, how easily I was able to blend into the learning pattern. Watching as the school of fish is broken down to basic components allowed me to adapt what I was doing. Sure, I’m not a kid, but Mark went slow enough that anyone could pick it up with ease. Plus, he made it fun without evoking memories of Bob Ross.
“A Day at the Aquarium” is more of the same, but you got to draw a seal that doesn’t look like he comes from the back of a matchbook cover. I know that sounds bad, but that’s what most drawn seals look like to me. It doesn’t matter if your kids’ stuff doesn’t look like that. Honestly, it might look like a purple turkey exploded over the water. That’s just what’s going to happen.
The DVD comes with a booklet and an additional art lesson. While the main material is an hour long, it sets up the young artist on a quest to learn more. I love stuff like this, so I’m willing to give a pass to the middlin’ A/V Quality. If you pick up this release, comment below with jpegs of your art. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
