Dad was one of those movies that I always revisit during Oscar time. Dick Smith pulled out an Oscar nomination for his continuing work in Old Age make-up. Yet, how hard was it to make Jack Lemmon look that old? Strong supporting turns from Olympia Dukakis, Ethan Hawke and Ted Danson round out the film. It’s just that the film is very, very slight.
I’m Not Rappaport was one of those mid 90s features that tried to revitalize aging actors. Gramercy was quite the outlet for that kind of work, but I feel the Universal takeover outshadow their library. Playing off an incredible ensemble of character actors, the film is about what elderly people can do when they rely on each other. The Blu-ray comes with no special features.
