Poms: Elderly Cheerleaders Empty Theaters [Review]

Poms died so quickly in theaters that it still makes me chuckle.

Don’t get me wrong, as I love the cast. However, the hubris of a studio giving this movie an early summer release kills me. Diane Keaton and Jacki Weaver make a great pair, but the script fails them. After all, a large chunk of the film is dedicated to a dying woman’s quest to get a good night’s sleep. When everyone barges in on her, she’s forced to deal with her past and entertain strangers.

I get how that might sound appealing to the 70 year olds that read the site (I see you ladies). However, I couldn’t help but keep siding with Diane Keaton. Sure, she eventually loves coming out of her shell. But, she’s still dying of cancer and having to put up with the off-age activities of her neighbors. Bruce McGill also appears to remind us all that Animal House was more than 40 years ago.

The Blu-ray comes with no special features. However, you get a Digital Copy. That way you can upload it your grandmother’s VUDU account. Just tell her it’s Wal-Mart Netflix and she’ll understand it. The A/V Quality is typically sharp for a recent release.

You get a standard 1080p transfer, but the DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track is what really pops. I can’t wait to hear from the fans of Poms.

POMS is available now!
