Excess Baggage is a film I remember seeing advertised a lot as a teenager. However, I don’t ever remember anyone fawning over it. There was a point in youth culture right before media saturation went insane. A time when you could casually forget things rather than being inundated by a wave of specifically targeted interests. Plus, it works as a low-key mid 90s crime movie.
The cast is workable, the direction is barely there and Christopher Walken shows up for an easy payday. It could literally be one of 40 films that were released between 1995-1998. The utter lack of identifiers only plays into its dated charm and reasons you don’t remember it.
Thankfully, Mill Creek gives it the package it deserves. A standard Blu-ray release that only appeals to its fans.
