Sheena isn’t Lady Tarzan
Sheena was a 1984 movie that gives modern kids the fits. I don’t mean young people. I’m talking about college aged to slightly older people that should know way more than to cry everytime something doesn’t meet their standards. That doesn’t mean this is an underappreciated film. It’s a dated piece of crap that shows why Tanya Roberts rarely headlined a film. She tries her ass off, but there is literally nothing to take away from this flick.
Still, it’s the only Tarzan film to feature one of Idi Amin’s trusted advisors in a major supporting role. But, what about the initial lead-in? Sheena isn’t Lady Tarzan because Tarzan had a developed arc. Our heroine plays like a mud obsessed wild woman who doubles as a White Savior for people who don’t need the support.
I dig the deep reach on these kinds of movies, but I’m not going to pretend like there is anything amazing here. Still, I can’t wait for the next round of the Mill Creek deep cuts.
