Shudder, AMC Networks’ premier streaming service dedicated to horror, thrillers, and the supernatural, is thrilled to announce the acquisition of “THE DEVIL’S BATH” ahead of its much-anticipated world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. This gripping psychological thriller, crafted by the renowned Austrian directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, known for their work on “GOODNIGHT MOMMY” and “THE LODGE,” is set to captivate audiences in North America, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand upon its release this summer.
Set against the backdrop of 1750 Austria, “THE DEVIL’S BATH” delves into the life of Agnes, a deeply religious woman who finds herself wedged into a life filled with endless chores and societal expectations after marrying her beloved. As days pass, Agnes’s world becomes increasingly grim, leading her down a path filled with dark thoughts and the looming temptation of committing an unthinkable act of violence as a means of escape from her emotional confinement.
Directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala expressed their excitement about partnering with Shudder, highlighting the platform’s appreciation for unique and challenging films. “THE DEVIL’S BATH” is not only a tale of depression’s horrors but also serves as a voice for women historically silenced, making it a significant addition to the horror genre.
Emily Gotto, Shudder’s VP of Global Acquisitions & Co-Productions, praised Franz and Fiala for their exceptional talent in crafting terrifying narratives that leave a lasting impact on viewers. “THE DEVIL’S BATH” promises to be another masterpiece from the duo, offering a chilling exploration of the human psyche that Shudder members are sure to find compelling.
Produced by Heimatfilm Productions and Ulrich Seidl Productions, in collaboration with Coop99 Filmproduktion, the film features an outstanding cast including Anja Plaschg, David Scheid, Maria Hofstätter, Camilla Schielin, and Lorenz Tröbinger. This acquisition, negotiated by Emily Gotto for Shudder and Nicolas Brigaud-Robert for Playtime on behalf of the filmmakers, marks an exciting addition to Shudder’s impressive catalog of exclusive content.
