“White God” takes place in a time and place where mutts are treated like garbage. They are taxed far more than pure breeds and now a young girl is being forced to give up her canine friend. The film follows this dog, as it tries to hide out and move through the ranks. Unfortunately, it gets grabbed and placed into a modern hell. What happens next borders on the best Planet of the Apes movies.
Dogs in cinema are always a soft spot for me. So is the concept of the underclass rising up and brutally murdering their oppressors. Naturally, this film was a great fit for me. I will agree with the cacophony of voices stating that it could’ve been edited. I could easily chop about 20 minutes out of the second act.
The Blu-Ray comes with interviews and a featurette as the special features. The A/V Quality is stunning for a work of World Cinema. The 1080p transfer is flawless. Plus, the DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track makes the bigger canine laced moments come to life. So far, this is one of my favorite movies of the year.
