What She Said: The Art of Pauline Kael is an all-new documentary about the master critic Pauline Kael. Taking a variety of interviews from legendary living directors and inter-cutting archival clips allows for Kael to have a face among the young. While I’m a fan of Kael’s work, it took me three viewing to get through the documentary. It’s not bad, but it’s super loaded with material.

The DVD comes with interview excerpts, deleted scenes and a never-aired interview with Alfred Hitchcock. While this won’t mean a ton to non film fans, this is an entry point film. Meaning, it’s the kind of documentary you give to a teenager who is on the cusp of a life long film devotion. Kael didn’t jive with everyone, but what she had to say was so important.
