“Welcome to Me” is about a crazy woman that wins the Lottery and decides to become Oprah. Kristen Wiig has been skirting these roles a lot since leaving Saturday Night Live. I appreciate the effort to branch out, but it doesn’t usually work. I can’t put a pin in why it doesn’t hold up, but I can see the character work onscreen. That’s more than I can say for a lot of major dramatic actresses.
Kristen Wiig gets naked in this flick. It’s part of a breakdown through a casino, but it’s enough to get the skin fans out there excited. That’s really sad, but I acknowledge the nature of the people that will hunt down info on this film. Most potential viewers will pick this up at random whether it’s streaming or other means.
The Blu-Ray comes with a featurette as the special feature. The A/V Quality is pretty amazing for a quiet dramatic comedy. The 1080p transfer is clean, but plays dark during some interiors. The Dolby TrueHD 5.1 helps create the soundstage and support the dialogue. In the end, it’s worth a purchase to the curious.
